Step 1. Make sure your iPhone and iPad are signed in using the same Apple ID. Tap on Settings, then tap on the Apple ID section at the top. Compare both the iPhone and iPad and see if both are signed into the same ID.

Step 2. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages. Make sure the iMessage toggle switch is enabled and under Text Message Forwarding make sure your iPad is selected. If you have multiple iPads then select the one on which you want to receive your iPhone text messages or just select them all.

Step 3. Give it a good minute or two for everything to sync up properly then launch the Messages app on your iPad.

Remember, both your iPhone and iPad should have access to a data network or Wi-Fi in order to send and receive messages.
